Protect Yourself Against Hospital-acquired Infections

An organization called RID - Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths - has posted a list of 14 tips on how to protect yourself from getting an infection during a hospital stay.

Tip Number One: "Ask that hospital staff clean their hands before treating you. This is the single most important way to protect your health in the hospital." AMEN!

RID also links to a February 2005 article in the Wall Street Journal, which describes the effort underway in the USA to compel hospitals to make public their infection rates.

This makes a lot of sense and it's so easy! I think we do just about everything listed in the article. But they are so right to make sure the patient jumps in there and asks about washing hands, etc. For those of us that hear this alot, it wouldn't offend. I'll be posting this at work also. Thanks for the info! Kathi
