Research Shows Eating Probiotics Lowers Colon Cancer Risk
At the Conference on Bacteria in Food and Health in Dublin yesterday, Professor Ian Rowland of the University of Ulster, Coleraine, stated his research shows that probiotic bacteria affect intestinal flora enough to lower the risk of colon cancer.
“We can identify compounds in the gut which can damage the DNA and we’ve found that probiotics can inactivate those chemicals," he said.
The Ireland Online article provides no further detail on Prof. Rowland's research.
