New Strain of MRSA "Superbug" May Infect 30,000 in Scotland

The Times of London reports that a new strain of MRSA (the antibiotic-resistant, staphylococcus aureus bacteria) is at large outside of hospitals. The CA-MRSA strain has been identified in 150 cased in Scotland, and is causing a virulent pneumonia that recently killed a young woman in England. (Hat tip: MRSA Watch)

This may also be the bacteria referred to by the US CDC last autumn, in a report describing research that showed antibiotic-resistant pneumonia bacteria were also causing skin infections (staph is usually found on the skin, where it can create boils and related infections).
