Nanobacteria: Crystals or Tiny, Infectious Life Forms?
Wired News has an excellent overview of the controversy surrounding nanobacteria -- recently discovered, crystal-like structures that may or may not be alive, and may be responsible for human diseases ranging from kidney stones to ovarian cancer. NASA is researching nanobacteria because it's been found they grow very rapidly in zero gravity -- meaning astronauts in space have a much greater chance of developing kidney stones than on Earth.
