Research to Combat Bedbugs

You may have read recent articles discussing the disturbing trend of bedbugs being discovered in otherwise-clean hotels and resorts. New York City is experiencing something of a bedbug plague at this time.

Johns Hopkins researcher Dr. Jason Rasgon is working to identify a bacteria that bedbugs require to reproduce, then target that bacteria with an appropriate chemical to disrupt the breeding cycle.

Rasgon also has some advice:
"When I check into a hotel room, the first thing I do is essentially pull the bed apart and check for blood spots and check for bugs."

And when he gets home?

"Take all my clothes and throw them in the dryer for about 30 minutes. That's just, anything that happens to be in there, that will kill them."
